Gibbons, Tigers, and Water Buffalo! Oh, my!

Are you the type of person who jumps at the chance to spend a day surrounded by animals? Or do you know someone who is? If so, I know just the place. Nestled next to Route 422, Living Treasures Wild Animal Park is a must-see for animal lovers of all sorts. Whether you’re a New Castle native or visiting the area, this privately owned zoo offers an unforgettable adventure in which few other places can compete. The following list is just some of the experiences that Living Treasures provides their customers.

 Hands-on Interaction

As soon as you enter the admission line, you can buy your choice of a bag of carrots or a bucket of grain to feed the majority of the animals inside the park (with the exception of carnivores, birds, and monkeys). Throughout the zoo, you will find two options for feeding:  docile species like those found within the petting zoo can eat right from the palm of your hand but for the more “exotic” animals, a feeding tube is provided to ensure the safety of critters and humans alike.

If that’s not close enough for you, Living Treasures also offers a free bottle-feeding experience with some of the baby animals. Twice a day—once in the morning and another in the afternoon—guests can bottle feed a baby goat, camel, or even a water buffalo. However, this opportunity is first-come, first-serve so make sure you arrive on time if you want your chance to connect with the cute babies.

Camel Rides

Located about halfway through the park, camel rides are available for people of all ages to enjoy. An important note to consider, however, is that children must be taller than 42 inches to ride by themselves. For kids under 42 inches, they can still ride the camel as long as someone over 42 inches accompanies them.

The camels are tame as can be and are trained to walk at a comfortable pace, especially for new riders.  Safety of all the parties involved is Living Treasure’s top priority, with fun being a close second.

A Picture to Last a Lifetime

What I personally believe to be the coolest experience that Living Treasures offers is the Photo Center. Here, you can take a picture with one of Living Treasures’ residents. You want to hear the best part? There’s a variety of animals to pick from! Baby wallabies and kangaroos are the perfect option for those who enjoy cuddling with fuzzy animals, but if you prefer handling reptiles, a ball python is also available. There are also different sizes of pictures that you can choose from.

After reading about all the fun that you can have at Living Treasures and you want to pay the park a visit, you can visit their website or Facebook for more information.
