Let us have a White Christmas, which not only is a classic, but it’s filled with the true meaning of Christmas and the holiday season. There is joy and happiness, which come from helping others, counting your blessings, and not being afraid to have fun through the hard times.  This year we have much to be thankful for, many memories to make and here’s a few amazing holiday activities to do just that.

Christmas Parades & Tree Lighting

There’s nothing quite as heartwarming as a local hometown parade. Watch marching bands, floats, and even bigger than life balloons! Lawrence County has local parade at every corner of the county throughout the holiday season.

The Nutcracker

Every year the New Castle Regional Ballet puts on a fantastic performance of the “Nutcracker” to kick off the Christmas season. The dedication and hard work the company puts in is clearly shown by how effortless the entire production seems.  See the Mouse King, Nutcracker and Sugar Plum Fairies come to life on December 4th, at 2:00pm at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.


Holly Jolly Wine Trail

Nova Destinations is bringing back a fan favorite Holly Jolly Wine Trail across three separate weekends! The trail will take place on Friday & Saturday each weekend and will encompass their 6 locations in Pulaski, PA; Nova Cellars Winery, Brew 32 Craft Brewery, Knockin’ Noggin,’Scallywag Distilling, Springwater Seltzer & The Orchard!


Christmas Shopping

You can check off your Christmas shopping list in Lawrence County with plenty of one-of-a-kind gifts in the abundance of unique shops here.  Indulge in delicious sweet treats from Jameson’s Candy & Mona’s Chocolates or gift baskets from The Apple Castle & Cheese House.  Enjoy walking around the quaint shops in Volant, New Wilmington and Ellwood City.


Nativities From Around the World

Silk Road Fair Trade Market nativities are unique and creative. Shop nativities made from olive wood from the West Bank, glass made nativities from Ecuador, or mini ceramic ones made in Peru.   They will be displayed and available for purchase throughout the month of December or while supplies last.

Christmas Lights

Cascade Park, Ewing Park, Pearson Park and Nova Destinations, transform into winter wonderlands. The parks are drive- thru light displays while Nova gives you the opportunity to stroll about. Be sure to check the calendar for special weekends when Santa will be there!


Holiday Movies

Experience the classic holiday movies at the Historic Warner Cascade Theater Museum throughout the month of December. Along with catching a few movies at the Scottish Rite Cathedral or the New Castle Library. There’s plenty of opportunity to watch your favorites.


Cut Your Own Christmas Tree

There is something special about being able to cut your own Christmas Tree. Yes, it might remind you of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and possibly finding a squirrel lurking in the branches, but it makes the experience that much more fun! Every year, families find the perfect tree to decorate. It becomes the focal point in the house and there is so much fun throughout the entire process. Create your own memories at McConnells Tree Farm, Rodgers Pine Hills Farm, Spring Water Tree Farm, Walker Farms or Zeiglers Christmas Trees.

Outdoor Activities

Just because it might be a little colder than normal, it’s still a perfect time to get outdoors! Take a stroll through one of our local parks decorated with lights for the holidays. With snow, the Stavich Bicycle Trail turns into the perfect cross country skiing trail or the West Park Nature Center where you can snowshoe too! Grab a sled and find the perfect hill or walk under the magnificent snow covered hemlocks at Hell’s Hollow, not to mention there’s always an opportunity to fish, hike and bike!
